I purchases a new Zeiss kit with body and set of lenses. At this point I don't feel I will ever buy anymore new Leica gear. Leica will never recapture the professionall market or even have more than a very small slice untill they come up wit better products for their high prices and professional priority service. I've opted to send most of the equipment to DAG because Leica service is so slow. IMO this is completely unacceptable for any company billing itself as top professional quality and with the prices we pay. Now with a new set of asph lenses and 3 new MP's I have had major mechanical problems out of 4 lenses and one of the new MP's. During the 4 decades I've shot M's professionally I've worked them hard and gotten what I want out of them untill the past few years. Unfortunately Leica is living on their name and not their service and quality. It was written by a man who runs a chain of 40 hotels. There is a book out called "A mint on the pillow is not enough" about bringing service to a new level. In fact I did while I wait for them to design the "perfect" R10 which will not be perfect like the M8 is not perfect. I can`t think of a worse thing than a business having an answering machine and on top of that, they don`t return the calls. Leica always has made a superior product and if they can get the service right, things will be good. Do you think they don`t know how to fix the problem? I bought an Apple. The computers are not secure as a matter of policy opening them up to all kind of malware. They use predatory methods to maintain their almost monopoly. No radio or television station had to put put it on the air. The world knew of the problem in days and no newspaper had to run a story. I will never believe they did not know they existed in advance. The last one was issuing the M8 with all the problems. They would not be in business if Leica repair was responsive in the first place. The idea was to put DAG, Sherry, and John out of business. It took letter from a Leica Historical Society member who is an attorny to remind them this is illegal. They last really bad decision was to keep independent repair people from from buying parts from Leica USA. Perhaps the new mgt will address some of these issues that have been going on forever.
